About Wilkesboro Open Air Market

The Wilkesboro Open Air Market offers “fresh from the farm” produce and handcrafted artisan products every Friday afternoon from 4 - 8 p.m. in the heart of Historic Downtown Wilkesboro, May through September. Since its establishment in 2011, the Open Air Market has become a lively gathering place for residents and visitors alike. The 2017 season will mark the opening of the redesigned market space with a new stage, concert lawn, and vendor area with a permeable paver surface. These improvements are a part of the Historic Downtown Wilkesboro Streetscape Project, a multi-phase revitalization planned for the downtown district. The venue will offer a new experience for special events in addition to the traditional farm and artisan market. Each season, the event series includes First Friday Dances, Third Friday Festivals, and Movies on Main. Every first Friday from May through September, the Open Air Market hosts “First Friday Dances” which feature an outdoor dance floor, an on-site DJ, and free shag dancing lessons offered by the Brushy Mountain Shag Club. The “Third Friday Festival” series attracts hundreds of visitors each season to Historic Downtown Wilkesboro for family-oriented Friday afternoon fun. Highlighting regional musicians, artists, locally produced food and wine, children’s activities, and community projects, the Third Friday Festivals have something for everyone! The dates for the “Third Friday Festivals” are May through September. Following each Third Friday Festival, the “Movies on Main” series will host an outdoor movie showing beginning at 9 p.m. A large screen with surround sound provides a unique experience for enjoying family-friendly films. On all other Fridays, the Open Air Market invites local and regional performing artists to showcase their talent on the Market Stage. If you are interested in performing at one of these events, please contact Christina Walsh at 336.838.3951 x.238. The weekly Open Air Markets, First Friday Dances, and Third Friday Festivals all take place at 102 West Main Street, Wilkesboro, located adjacent to the Wilkes Heritage Museum. Admission is FREE to ALL events! Come for the FRESHNESS, and stay for the FUN!
